Smith Teamaker a sofi Finalist for 2011
Steven Smith Teamaker’s Black Cap, “fruitsmithed” tea, named 2011 sofi ™ Silver Finalist for Outstanding Cold Beverage By the National Association for the Specialty Food Trade
Portland, Oregon, April 26, 2011 – Smith Teamaker’s Black Cap, Ready to Drink tea, has been selected as a Silver Finalist for Outstanding Beverage in the 2011 sofi™ Awards from the National Association for the Specialty Food Trade, Inc. The sofi Awards recognize excellence in specialty foods and beverages and are a coveted industry honor. “sofi” stands for Specialty Outstanding Food Innovation.
Smith’s Black Cap is one of 110 Silver Finalists selected by a national panel of specialty food experts from 1,657 contenders across 31 Awards categories. Gold Winners will be announced in a red-carpet ceremony July 11, 2011 at the Summer Fancy Food Show in Washington, D.C. hosted by noted chef Cat Cora.
“Well, we think Black Cap tastes great and are glad the judges agreed. Based on the inquiries for this and our other ready to drink teas, we may just need to scale up from our current 30 bottle brew batch. Could be a long hot summer with Tony and ML slaving over our tiny batches”, says Steve. Together with a talented team (and by team, we mean eight people) Smith creates teas, tonics and elixirs that taste like nothing else on earth. Immerse yourself in Smith’s world through smithtea.com, where you can sample every flavor and explore the provenance of each ingredient. Or when in Portland, visit the Teaworks, M-F, at 1626 NW Thurman St.
The sofi Awards are open to members of the NASFT, a not-for-profit trade association established in 1952 with more than 2,900 members throughout the U.S. and abroad. “The field was the most competitive yet, with more than 1650 entries across all 31 Awards. The innovation and quality of the finalists are a true testament to the entrepreneurial spirit of our members,” says Ann Daw, president of the NASFT.
