On a high plateau in Southeastern China, Yunnan is known as the birthplace of tea, and the area has some of the most ancient tea trees in existence, including some over 1000 years old. The best teas from Yunnan are wiry and twisted and have distinct golden tips. These are produced in May. Yunnan brews up rich amber red in color, has a lightly sweet, floral flavor and aroma, and brings notes of smoke, spice and leather.
