An uncommon man, and a remarkable life.

It is with great sadness that we share the news of the passing of Steven Smith from complications of cancer.

He would like you to know that his company, Smith Teamaker, lives on.

First created in 2009, Smith Teamaker has built a growing global reputation for excellence as a leader in the premium tea category.

The enduring presence of Kim Smith, Steve’s wife and company co-founder, assures continuity in leadership. As Steve’s full partner in business as well as life, Kim has been integral to the growth of Smith Teamaker since its inception, serving as head of marketing, talent management, and strategic planning. Her knowledge of the company — and shared vision of the brand and plans for expansion — is intimate and complete.

As Steve’s personally trained right hand man for 17 years, Tony Tellin, the company’s master tea blender, will continue to oversee product development and quality. Tony has been innovating numerous special blends and will continue his tea making artistry to sustain the Smith Teamaker name for outstanding creativity and taste.

Overall, the Smith Teamaker team of more than 30 loyal souls — handpicked by Steve and Kim — remains committed to Steve and Kim’s vision of excellence from tasting room to shipping.

Smith Teamaker will continue, stronger than ever, from its original location at 1626 NW Thurman Street and its headquarters at 110 SE Washington Street in Portland, Oregon.
