GREEN TEA

18 reviews

Slender needle-like leaves produce a deeply vegetal taste and aroma, ripe with notes of toasted rice and nori. Harvested in the spring to early summer in the up-and-coming Kagoshima region, the leaves are steamed to perfection to stop oxidation of the leaf, as well as to lock in their deep jade color and flavor.

Tasting Notes:

Magnolia, umami, steamed greens

Shocked at the comparison

I have been drinking a Sencha tea from another company daily for years and then decided to try Sencha from Smith that happened to be on sale. It is not too overstated to say I was shocked at the difference. In comparison my old tea now seems to have almost no flavor. I’m going to have to change my loyalties.

One of my favorite green teas!

Highly recommend Sencha from Steven Smith teas. You'll find ypu need less tea than other senchas as it's really a pure tea.

Best quality teas!

One of the best Senchas on the market! Always know it will be fresh and a high quality. I like that the lose teas are a full leaf and not broken pieces.

I am picky about Sencha!

This is the greatest I have bought in this country. I usually stock up in Japan, but haven’t been since the pandemic. This is perfect for the mid afternoon pick up.

Sencha

I’m not sure on this one. I can’t seem to find the right amount to use per infusion, it seems weaker in flavor than most other sencha teas I’ve had. Will keep fooling with it.

Shizuoka Prefecture

Shizuoka Prefecture is located in the Chubu region, on the island of Honshu in Japan. While unable to claim full ownership of Mt. Fuji (its a joint custody thing with Yamanashi Prefecture), Shizuoka can tout being the biggest tea producing region in Japan, which says something. Harvest time for Sencha happens from April through June.
