Assam

Malty, rich, flavorful, and smooth. Good either straight or with a touch of milk. No bitterness or ‘grassiness.’ This batch (packed 12/5/2022) tastes much better than an Assam from a couple of years ago. Could be a touch more complex, but overall one of the best Assam’s I’ve tasted in a long time.

Excellent

I've been having a cup of Smith's Assam tea every morning for the past 10 years. It has a rich deep flavor that I haven't found elsewhere in my 45 years of tea drinking.

Ingredients

Full leaf Indian black tea from Assam.

Blend Numerology

Steve Smith's birth year and number of times he spent per day looking for his glasses.

Preparation

For best flavor, bring spring or freshly drawn filtered water to a boil (212 degrees). Steep 1 rounded tsp (3 g) loose leaf for five minutes. A good time to practice the guitar.

Assam

Indian Black Tea

Assam tea is the biggest, brightest, richest and most astringent tea made. It is the backbone to breakfast style teas of nearly all brand and quality although it is also used in many blends for body and top notes. Assam is less floral and has more bread or biscuit-like flavor than other origins, and is often described as malty or coppery.

Assam Region

The Assam region is located in Northeast India, and borders Bhutan and Bangladesh. At near sea level, this region produces teas that are full flavored, rich, and chewy with distinct characteristics of caramel and malt. The best teas from this region are plucked and processed in June and July, a harvest also known as the 2nd Flush.
