A finely ground powder of specially grown Japanese green tea, our Matcha Green Tea makes especially delicious lattes. A favorite among Smith Teamakers, our Matcha Latte and Iced Matcha Latte recipes lead to a delicious and vibrant green beverage that pairs wonderfully with milk as well as coconut milk, almond milk, soy milk, or your favorite milk alternative. To take a more simple and traditional approach, try our making Matcha in a Ceremonial style using our Moment of Zen kit that comes with a locally handmade bowl and bamboo whisk.

Matcha Latte Recipe

1. Measure 1/2 teaspoon of Matcha powder and sift into 12oz latte cup or bowl.

2. Add 1oz of 170 degree filtered water to create a concentrate.*

3. Mix with electric frother or Matcha whisk to remove any clumps.

4. Add simple syrup to taste. We recommend 5/8oz.

5. In a chilled metal pitcher, steam 8-9oz of milk until bottom of pitcher becomes nearly too hot to touch or until thermometer reaches 150 degrees.

6. Pour steamed milk into Matcha concentrate, create latte art if desired.

*Note: To get a smooth, vegetal and slightly sweet extraction we recommend water at 170 degrees. Any temperature higher than this will yield a bitter extraction and take away from the nuances in the green matcha powder. Your drink will remain warm, however the water temperature is low enough that the matcha will taste its best.

Iced Matcha Latte Recipe

1. Measure 1/2 teaspoon of Matcha powder and sift into 12oz latte cup.

2. Add 1oz of cool filtered water to create a concentrate.*

3. Mix with electric frother or Matcha whisk to remove any clumps.

4. Add simple syrup to taste. We recommend 5/8oz.

5. Pour 8-9oz of cold milk over Matcha concentrate.

6. Pour mixture over ice and enjoy.

*Note: To get a smooth, vegetal and slightly sweet extraction we recommend water at 170 degrees or cooler. The purpose of the water is to hydrate the green matcha powder to whisk and incorporate it into the water. The water does not need to be hot for this extraction to work. Therefore our preference for this iced matcha latte recipe is to use cool water so that the ice will not melt and dilute our iced matcha beverage.

Ceremonial Matcha Recipe

1. Measure 1/2 teaspoon of Matcha powder and sift into your matcha bowl.

2. Measure 200ml of 170 degree water*

3. Slowly add water to bowl in stages. We recommend adding and whisking 3 times. Watch the video below.

4. Using a bamboo Matcha whisk, vigorously whisk back and forth until well dissolved and slightly frothy.

5. Whisk back and forth again.

6. Repeat until all water has been added.

7. Step back, relax and enjoy.

*Note: The purpose of the water is to dilute the green matcha powder and whisk it into a liquid-like paste. The water does not need to be hot for this extraction to work. Therefore it is up to your preference if you would like this beverage to be warm or cool. However, we recommend not going above 170 degrees.
