Accounting Lead

Based At: Smith Teamaker (Portland, OR)

Position Reports To:  Ariana Spiegler, Vice President of Finance

Job Purpose:

Portland artisan tea company is looking for a full time Accounting Lead. The Accounting Lead is a hybrid role in a stable and growing company. Initially, the role will be a mix of daily bookkeeping, reconciling and reporting with an emphasis on leading others on the Accounting Team. With the right candidate, this role will quickly move into a Senior Accountant/Accounting Manager position. This position reports to the VP Finance.

This job contributes to Smith Teamaker’s success by keeping financial records accurate, up-to-date and reconciled. The position also plays a key role in supporting Smith Teamaker’s growth by working cross-functionally to create efficient work flows and documented processes.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Fact-check & invoice sales orders, E-Commerce and retail sales.
  • Post all payments, including checks, cash, ACH, wire and merchant service deposits.
  • Process invoice adjustments and refunds.
  • Collect past-due amounts and manage the automated collections software.
  • Provide backup support to A/P as needed.
  • Reconcile Accounts and prepare necessary journal entries.
  • Assist in the monthly close and reporting process.
  • Comply with Local, State and Federal information and reporting requirements.
  • Assist VP Finance with budgets, forecasts, and other financial analysis.

Required Skills, Abilities and Knowledge:

  • Excellent knowledge of QuickBooks Desktop, Advanced Excel and MS Office Skills
  • 6-8 years of experience with GAAP and the full accounting cycle
  • Undergraduate Accounting Degree or additional years of experience
  • Experience developing and documenting procedures
  • Experience in wholesale/retail/ecommerce accounting is preferred
  • Strong emphasis on accuracy and detail
  • Effective time management, team leadership and supportive coaching skills
  • Engaging and authentic personality with the willingness to do whatever it takes to get the job done

    Customer Service Representative

    Based At: Smith Teamaker (Portland, OR)

    Position Reports To:  Bill Githens, Vice President of Sales

    Job Purpose:

    Portland artisan tea company is looking for a full time Customer Service Representative. This position contributes to Smith Teamaker's success by directly supporting all phases of the relationship between Smith Teamaker and its customers by providing superior service and increased sales in the marketplace. This person is expected to perform all duties in a manner consistent with Smith's business objectives and core values.

    We love what we do and want team members who are passionate about providing the best experience to our customers and partners. This position reports to the Vice President of Sales.

    Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities:

    • Handle incoming calls from customers, including taking orders, providing recommendations and relevant information about Smith products, setting up new accounts, following up and supporting increased sales.
    • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both orally and in writing.
    • Follow a tracking system for sales and support of customers (via CRM).
    • Assist in developing new strategies for supporting outside sales people, brokers and marketing firms.
    • Maintain a good working knowledge of the Smith Teamaker line of teas, how and where they are sourced, produced, packaged and distributed. Stay regularly updated on current sales and promotions, policies regarding payment and exchanges, and information about navigating the website.
    • Be able to work alongside and communicate effectively with other team members.
    • Manage and track in-store promotions and bill backs via distributors & brokers.
    • Work with the team to create an on-going communication format from sales department to brokerage community and direct customers, ie: newsletter, email. To include, but not limited to, announcements, new products, price changes, changes in freight, procedures, etc.
    • Must be flexible to learn, take on new tasks, share knowledge and to work in a cohesive team with other departments to support the business.

    Education, Experience, and Certification:

    • Microsoft Word and Excel
    • Quickbooks experience
    • CRM knowledge

    Regional Sales Representative

    Based At: Washington D.C. or New York City

    Job Description:

    Seeking a committed, organized, detail-oriented and experienced Outside Sales Representative for a vibrant, creative and growing tea company. The position is a full time position reporting to the Vice President of Sales with health benefits including medical, dental, life, free/discounted tea and PTO. This position contributes to our Teamaker’s success by building company revenues by identifying and closing new sales targets, as well as managing existing customers in assigned territory. Role models and acts in accordance with Smith Teamaker policies and core principles. This position will be a key member of the sales team and will interact with all functions of the business. Must enjoy working in an energetic and collaborative environment.

    Key Responsibilities and Job Functions:

    • Develop strategic and operational sales plans to increase overall sales and gross margin for assigned territory.
    • Identify sales targets, markets and established successful plans to develop them, through business directories, client referrals, etc.
    • Will focus on outside sales which involves visiting clients in the field.
    • Will be necessary to work on sales involving "cold calling" for new clients.
    • Responsibilities include managing existing clients as assigned.
    • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to get hold of brand and customer information to compete for new accounts.
    • Responsible for delivering budget sales revenue for assigned territory.
    • Work on market and specific customer selling and trade show events.
    • Be extremely knowledgeable about Smith Teamaker and be a Teamaker Ambassador.
    • Perform ad hoc reporting and analysis as requested.
    • Additional duties as necessary
