Steven Smith Teamaker is a Portland-based family tea company devoted to uncommon good taste in your cup. Smith sources the finest teas and botanicals from friends in India, China, Sri Lanka and Africa. We blend, manufacture and package our teas in small craft batches at our two manufacturing facilities and tasting rooms in Portland, OR.  Our goal is simply to make tea that we like to drink. JOB DESCRIPTION

Seeking a committed, organized, detail-oriented and experienced Accountant for a vibrant, creative and growing tea company  The position is a full time position reporting to the President with health benefits including medical,dental, life, free/discounted tea and PTO. This job contributes to our Teamaker’s success by managing the accounting, financial, and some administrative operations of the company. Smith Teamaker manufactures its own product so some experience in cost accounting is required. Role models and acts in accordance with Smith Teamaker policies and core principles. This position will be a key member of the executive leadership team and will interact with all functions of the business. Must enjoy working in an energetic and collaborative environment.

Responsibilities and essential job functions include but are not limited to the following:

  • Manage all accounting operations, including: A/R, A/P, Payroll, GL, Fixed Asset, and Cost Accounting
  • Manage cash inflows and outflows to maintain sufficient liquidity to meet operational needs
  • Ensure quality control over financial transactions and reporting using QuickBooks, Excel and Revel POS.
  • Develop and maintain internal controls
  • Manage month-end and year-end close processes
  • Prepare and publish in a timely manner monthly financial statements
  • Coordinate the preparation of the budget and financial forecasts, and report variances to management and the board of directors
  • Develop, document, and maintain business processes and accounting policies
  • Manage and comply with local, state, and federal government reporting requirements and tax filings
  • Coordinate with outside CPA firm for tax preparation and financial review
  • Develop and maintain banking, insurance, and benefit provider relationships
  • Perform ad hoc reporting and analysis as requested
  • Some HR and IT functions as needed
  • Additional duties as necessary

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Leadership and management skills
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP
  • Strong knowledge of Quickbooks and Excel 
  • Hands on experience with all aspects of the accounting cycle
  • Ability to manage accounting for manufacturing including cost accounting
  • Planning & Budgeting
  • Cash Management
  • Willingness to do as well as manage others
  • Ethical conduct & confidentiality
  • Communication with internal and external stakeholders
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or related field year(s) 4
  • Progressively responsible accounting experience year(s) 4
  • CPA or CMA preferred

Full-Time Tasting Room Sales Specialist


BASED AT: Smith Teamaker, 110 SE Washington St, Portland, Oregon 97214

POSITION REPORTS TO:  Tasting Room Manager

JOB PURPOSE SUMMARY:

Portland artisan tea company is looking for a full time Tasting Room Sales Specialist to help run our Tasting Room in SE Portland.  Use your customer service and sales skills to drive sales and contribute to the success of Smith Teamaker.  Equal attention to hospitality and sales is essential while representing the Smith brand with a strong focus on detail and aesthetics. This position may also engage in special projects and work occasionally with the manufacturing team on an as-needed basis.

We are looking for someone who can thrive in a team-oriented, roll-up-your-sleeves, fast-paced environment.  We love what we do and want team members who are passionate about providing the best tea experience to our consumers.  This position reports to the Smith Teamaker Tasting Room Manager.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACCOUNTABLITIES:

    • Greet tea room customers/other guests with a smile and ascertain what each customer wants or needs
    • Maintain knowledge of current sales and promotions, policies regarding payment and exchanges, and security practices
    • Maintain POS reporting related to retail sales and present data at staff meetings
    • Recommend, select, and answer questions about products based on customer needs
    • Dust and clean shelves, counter, and tables
    • Prepare handcrafted beverages including tea flights, lattes, and specialty drinks
    • Stock and tidy retail space with close attention to aesthetic detail
    • Answer phones, taking wholesale/retail orders over the phone, and directing messages when necessary
    • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing
    • Flexibility to work overtime and events as required, even on short notice
    • Ability to follow verbal direction and work independently
    • Represent Smith Teamaker at various demos and events
    • Comply with all regulatory and internal rules and good manufacturing practices
    • Work within a set schedule, be on time and display a positive attitude
    • Act as a concierge for local businesses and neighbors
    • Ability to work in accordance with quality, safety, and sanitation standards, policies and guidelines
    • Assist with manufacturing tasks as needed
    • Open and close cash registers and perform other duties as assigned by manager

MINIMUM EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/CERTIFICATION

    • College education (preference)
    • Retail and/or serving experience
    • Knowledge of tea and serving practices
    • Food handlers certification
    • Good written and verbal communication skills
    • Valid driver’s license and insurance (preference)
